New blog helps readers enjoy Albuquerque’s attractions, concerts, restaurants and bars “on the cheap”
Albuquerque, NM – “How can we save money and still enjoy our lives?” In the current coupon-clipping climate, that question ranks high on everyone’s mind. Now, a new local blog provides answers every day.
“Albuquerque on the Cheap” (http://abqonthecheap.com) helps Duke City denizens find daily deals on things like dining, events and activities. That means more local residents can get out and about, well, on the cheap.
The new blog is edited by Elizabeth Hanes, a seasoned freelance writer who has lived in Albuquerque for over a decade.
“Everyone—including me—is looking for deals right now,” Hanes says. “And they’re out there. I’m just trying to make it easy for people to find them.” Over the past several weeks, thrifty readers of Albuquerque on the Cheap (also called “ABQ on the Cheap”) have learned about deals as diverse as discounted tickets to the Albuquerque SuperNationals car show, free film series, $25 restaurant certificates for $3, and free family activities. That’s in addition to dozens of opportunities to experience music, art, kids’ activities and attractions for free.
Fittingly, Hanes plans to give away several prizes to celebrate the official launch of the blog on Thursday, March 12. Readers can enter by various methods for a chance to win one of the following prizes:
- $50 gift certificate to Independence Grill, courtesy of ABQ on the Cheap
- 10 gift certificates (approximate value $35) for a jar of salsa from El Pinto
- $25 gift certificate good at either Silver Owl Inc, Glass Quill or AC Jewelers, courtesy of Matt Gassner, Wachovia Securities
- Bag of Ubuntu branded swag, courtesy of New Mexico Linux Corporation
- Trio of books, including New Mexico, Insiders’ Guide to Fun with the Family in New Mexico, and Wines of Enchantment: A Guide to Finding and Enjoying the Wines of New Mexico, courtesy of ABQ on the Cheap
ABQ on the Cheap is part of a rapidly growing network of independently owned and operated “Cities on the Cheap” (http://www.citiesonthecheap.com) websites in the United States and Canada. Owned mostly by women, the network of blogs grew out of a series of conversation in an online writers’ network. Each editor owns his or her own blog, and the entrepreneurial journalists are working in collaboration. The sites are supported by advertising.
