A free Tennis is Fun play day for kids is part of the Nickelodeon Worldwide Day of Play program on Saturday September 8, 2012.

The USTA Southwest has teamed up with the Nickelodeon Network to offer various Tennis Play Day events for parents and children over the coming month.

The only Albuquerque event I can see right now is a Tennis is Fun free event for kids aged 5 to 12, on Saturday September 8, 2012, from 10:30 am to 12 noon at the City of Albuquerque’s Alamosa Tennis Courts.

The organizer is kids’ tennis coach Dee Sanchez, member of the United States Tennis Association, and the Northern New Mexico Tennis Association. She tells me that the event is primarily aimed at kids in the Southwest Valley and North Valley areas but emphasizes that ALL ARE WELCOME and nobody is ever turned away!

It’s a fun introduction to tennis for kids, even if they haven’t played before and don’t know how to.  They’ll have lots of tennis-related games, with different courts to match up the kids by age, and tennis equipment is provided. The children just need to wear sneakers – they can’t play tennis in flip flops or open sandals.

So if you’ve got a budding tennis player aged 5-12 in the family, or a child who’s interested in learning, here’s their chance to try it out. The Albuquerque Nickelodeon Day of Play event flyer in PDF gives more details and directions.

No advance registration is required, and participants are also welcome to take a picnic for lunch afterwards.

The City of Albuquerque’s Alamosa Tennis Courts are located at 2500 Sunset Gardens Road (near the Bataan intersection) between the Alamosa Elementary School and the Alamosa Community Center.

Thanks to Leah and her mom who passed along the info about the Nickelodeon free tennis for kids program so we could track down a local play day! Leah runs our sister site Philadelphia on the Cheap.
