Living in a desert, we all know we need to conserve water. And in this economy, we have an added incentive to save our hard-earned cash by reducing our water bill.

The 2012 Water Conservation & Xeriscaping Expo this weekend February 25 and 26 will help you do just that. And it’s all free. We mean all!

Let’s start with the admission: FREE. And the multitude of seminars? FREE.  OK, there is a $5 parking fee, but let’s not quibble.

The Expo organized by the Xeriscape Council of New Mexico features a host of exhibitors where you can find out about cool stuff like garden art, xeriscape technology, and solar power, and also visit wildlife and conservation exhibitors, nurseries with native plants and trees, and local New Mexico food booths. They’re also promising drawings to win prizes from exhibitors and free plants.

Free admission also gets you access to free seminars, including:

  • Backyard beekeeping
  • Xeriscaping
  • Water harvesting
  • The basics of drip irrigation
  • Composting
  • Soil problems and solutions
  • Strategies for adapting gardens to changes in climate
  • Tree selection for Albuquerque
  • And more!

The 2012 Water Conservation & Xeriscaping Expo:

  • When:
    Saturday February 25, from 9 am – 5 pm
    Sunday February  26 from 10 am  – 4 pm
  • Where: Expo New Mexico
  • Admission: Free, although allow $5 for parking
