The Sandia Green Chile Festival is hot to trot for its debut on September 16. Perhaps it will provide a definitive answer to the eternal “red or green?” question – at least it would if the Anderson-Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum and Peralta chile growers O’Hare Serna Farms have anything to do with it!

The first Sandia Green Chile Festival gets hot under the collar at the Balloon Museum on Sunday September 16, 2012, from 11 am to 7 pm.  There’s a great line-up of entertainment, plus cooking demonstrations, chile and farming exhibits, and a KidsZone with jumpers and face painting.  As you’d expect of a festival dedicated to all things green chile, they’ll be roasting green chile for sale and you’ll find chile-themed food as well as beer from Albuquerque microbreweries to wash it all down.

Admission is $7 for adults and free for kids aged 12 and under.

The press release I received doesn’t give a full schedule of events and what’s happening when, so I guess it’s a case of turn up and smell the chiles. But entertainment includes some very popular performers, including Le Chat Lunatique, The Squash Blossom Boys, The Buckarettes, Jeez la Weez, Felix y los Gatos, and Racine Kreyol.

Anderson-Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum is located at 9201 Balloon Museum NE.

If you JUST CAN’T GET ENOUGH chile – and of course you can’t – check out Saturday’s Old Town Salsa Fiesta too.
