If you’re loco for salsa, here’s your chance to celebrate all things saucy — and it’s almost ALL FREE!

The 2009 Salsa Fiesta takes place Saturday, August 15 (2009), from 2:00 – 9:00pm in Old Town. Here are some of the activities you can enjoy:

  • Vote for the best homemade salsa
  • Wine tasting
  • Salsa tasting
  • Live music by “Son Como Son”
  • “Children’s Corner”
  • Jane Butel and other noted speakers
  • Salsa and spicy foods vendors
  • There will even be a prize drawing for those who take public transportation to get to the fiesta!

Admission to the event is FREE. Participation in certain activities is cheap; here’s the fee schedule:

  • A  salsa contest judge wristband costs $4
  • A wine tasting wristband costs $4 (and is only for adults over age 21)
  • To obtain wristbands for both of the above events costs $6
  • BUT, if you spend $25 or more at any Old Town merchant or restaurant between now and August 15, you can use your receipt(s) to obtain one or both wristbands FREE!

This is a great, family-friendly event. Check out this video produced by the City of Albuquerque:

If you go, send us your pix!

Old Town is bounded by Central Ave, Rio Grande, and Mountain Rd in the heart of Albuquerque, NM.

Thanks for the feedback! City of Albuquerque, are you listening??

The 2009 Salsa Fiesta was poorly laid out; L-O-N-G lines for salsa and wine tasting prohibited us from even being able to taste. If laid out better, lines would go more quickly, and congestion would be alleviated. Also, snow cone line poorly operated, with (plastic-gloved) servers also handling money (which defeats purpose of gloves and is code violation)

We’re trying to find out if the Salsa Fiesta is dog friendly. And, like you, we were disappointed we didn’t discover this deal until after the entry deadline! Argh! Trust us, that won’t happen next year.

Wish I’d known before the Aug 3 deadline – we would have entered!!!! Probably will still go, but is it dog-friendly?
