The next free event in the New Mexico Centennial Speaker & Living History Series at the KiMo is a chautauqua performance about photographer Laura Gilpin.

Actor Deborah Blanche presents Laura Gilpin: New Mexico Landscapes & Portraits in a one woman show at the KiMo Theatre on Wednesday September 12, 2012, at 7 pm, and admission is free!

Blanche’s portrayal of Renaissance woman Gilpin includes 30 slides of Gilpin’s work, and the presentation is described as being very similar to Gilpin’s own illustrated lectures during the period when she worked on one of her most famous books: The Enduring Navajo. The presentation is followed by a meet and greet with the actor and free gourmet coffee and herbal teas.

This is part of the New Mexico Centennial Living History Series with chautauqua reenactments of some of New Mexico’s most interesting characters, and doors open at the KiMo at 6:30 pm.

If you’ve seen notices elsewhere for this performance on a different date (October 10), then be aware  that there was a change in the schedule. I’ve checked with the KiMo Theatre and the event is confirmed as definitely happening on September 12.

Laura Gilpin: New Mexico Landscapes & Portraits takes place:

  • When:  Wednesday September 12, 2012
  • Time: 7 pm
  • Where:  KiMo Theatre
  • Price: Admission is free!

The KiMo Theatre is located at 423 Central Avenue NW.
