Albuquerque Founders Day FiestaAlbuquerque Founders Day Fiesta 2012 celebrates the city’s 306th birthday and it should be especially good during New Mexico’s Centennial year, with music, entertainment, kids’ activities, gunfighters, and more…

Albuquerque Founders Day Fiesta is on Saturday April 21, 2012, and here’s a reminder that all the fun is focused around Old Town during the afternoon, with various areas dedicated to five different eras of our history and heritage: the Native American Era, the Spanish Era, the Mexican Era, the Territorial Era, and the Statehood Era.

  • 3:30 pm Presentation of Proclamations and a sing-along of Happy Birthday and Las Mañanitas accompanied by Mariachi Nuevo Sonido and Mariachi San Jose at the Gazebo.
  • Kids’ area at Plaza Don Luis from noon to 5 pm, with hula hoopers, Funny Dummy Puppetry, and displays of juggling, magic, and acrobatics from the Clan Tynker troupe
  • Piñatas at 1 pm in Plaza Don Luis
  • Gunfighters at 45 minutes past the hour from 12:45 to 3:45 (South San Felipe)
  • United Native Council drumming and dances at 11 am at the Old Town Plaza Gazebo
  • Actors playing historical figures and chautaqua presentations at various times and places of New Mexico historical characters, including Buffalo Soldiers-Military Heroes of the Southwest, A Southern Belle in the Old West, and The Way of the Drum.
  • Navajo Code Talkers at Trader Barb’s on Romero Street
  • Costume contest for prizes if you go dressed in an outfit for one of the five eras: Native American, Spanish, Mexican, Territorial or Statehood.
