Planning a trip to Santa Fe? You might want to time it for a Friday and save up to $9 per person on museum admission fees. Plus, I love Friday evenings in the City Different, as they have all the great art gallery openings and artist events along Canyon Road, and the whole street has a festive atmosphere. And on Museum Hill, the views are always lovely and it’s a tiny bit cooler up there!

Through Labor Day, 2012, two museums on Santa Fe’s Museum Hill and two museums near the Downtown Santa Fe Plaza stay open late and offer free admission to everyone on Friday evenings from 5 – 8 pm .

The museums offering free admission on Friday evenings through Labor Day weekend are:

The regular admission at these museums is $9 per adult, or $6 for New Mexico Residents. Kids aged 16 and under always go free, and students with ID get $1 discount.

New Mexico residents also get free admission throughout the year at these museums on Sundays, and New Mexico seniors aged 60+ can go free on Wednesdays. Take your ID to prove you are who you say you are.

Note that it’s always free admission to the Wheelwright Museum of the American Indian, also on Museum Hill, but they do NOT open late on Fridays, and close daily at 5 pm.

Santa Fe’s Museum Hill is located on Camino Lejo, off the Old Santa Fe Trail. It’s well-signed from the center of town for drivers. If you’re visiting by the New Mexico Rail Runner or otherwise don’t have a car, the Santa Fe Trails M Line bus from Downtown costs $1 each way to Museum Hill, or $2 for day pass. Seniors (60+) pay half fare and the ride is free for ages 17 and under.
