Old Town Free Holiday Strings Concert

A free concert of holiday string music in the heart of Albuquerque Old Town with an acclaimed quartet.

A free Holiday Strings concert by La Catrina Quartet at San Felipe de Neri Church on Friday December 14 at 6:30  pm sounds completely delightful and a rather special way to enjoy the sacred spirit of Christmas.  La Catrina Quartet has received kudos from Yo-Yo Ma, and the Los Angeles Times praised the quartet’s “Youthful energy and mature artistry.”

The Holiday Strings free concert runs from 6:30 to 8 pm on December 14, 2012, but it’s likely to be popular so get there early. I’d say arrive well before the actual concert start time in order to find a seat, and you can enjoy the beautiful interior of the sanctuary while you’re waiting. Before or after the concert you can also take a look around the courtyard and recently renovated church space.

The musicians entertain with a blend of Latin-American and standard string quartet music, and when not touring the United States and Mexico they are in residence at New Mexico State University. They’re a very handsome quartet too – see more about La Catrina Quartet at their website, which includes audio samples of their music.

If you’re an Albuquerque visitor, the historic San Felipe de Neri church is in Old Town plaza.
