The Albuquerque Concert Band in performance.

Thanks to reader Kenny for this tip!

Elevate your culture Wednesday evening with a FREE concert by the Albuquerque Concert Band. The band plays a variety of music, from big band era chestnuts to Scottish dances to symphonic marches. They’re an all-volunteer organization that has been enriching Albuquerque for more than 40 years.

You can hear them Wednesday, August 5 (2009), 7:00pm, at Villella Park (aka Headingly Park) near McKinley Middle School at Comanche and San Mateo. Feel free to bring coolers, picnics, chairs, blankets, and whatever. And don’t be too shy to dance!

By the way, the Albuquerque Concert Band is recruiting. If you can play trombone or tuba (or any wind or percussion instrument) at a high school level, and if you’re over age 18, contact Diantha Swaboda at 256-3823 for more info on how you can become part of this institution.
