It’s the Day of Dead, and Albuquerque Old Town’s Día De Los Muertos celebration is on Saturday November 3, 2012, with entertainment that’s free and open to everyone.

The Old Town Día De Los Muertos event is on Saturday November 3 from 6 pm to 10 pm with a parade, costume contest, a community altar,  live music from Mariachi Nuevo Mexico and more, and an art show and giveaways.

The details and timings I’m giving you here are combined from a press release from the City of Albuquerque Cultural Services Department and from the event’s web page, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there were changes. It might be a case of turn up and go with the flow… I’ll update if I hear any more details.

  • 6 pm: The Dia de los Muertos parade starts at the east entrance of Old Town, proceeding around the Plaza and ending at Poco a Poco Patio, 328 San Felipe Street NW, where you’ll find an art show until 10 pm featuring award-winning art from local artists including Johnny Salas, Manuel Salas, Kenny Chavez, and Suzanne Baca.
  • 6 pm: New Mexico Tex Trio
  • 6:30: Las Flores Del Valle
  • 7 pm: Costume Contest
  • 8 pm: Mariachi Nuevo Mexico

I’m disappointed to hear that too, Jessica. The details in the post on the Nov 3 2012 parade date, location/route, and timing were from a press release sent to me by the City of Albuquerque Cultural Services Department, so if they change or cancel an event for whatever reason and don’t notify me, there’s not a lot I can do. I don’t organize the events, I just pass on the information, and my facts were correct according to the information provided by the City. I understand how frustrating it must have been to turn up to no parade, and I’m sorry to hear that. I hope the rest of the event’s music and art show etc. was enjoyable though.

I’m extremely disappointed that the Dia De Los Muertos event you posted about in Old Town was not accurate. After inviting friends and family, and piling into two cars we arrived in Old Town at 6:00 only to find out there was no parade, and there hadn’t been a parade for this event in 3 years! We ran into countless other people who had also seen you post and who were waiting patiently for a parade to start. Please in the future make sure your facts are accurate. It’s annoying to make plans only to be disappointed.

I WISH YOU A GOOD LIFE.
