The Cheyenne Social Club is the next in a series of free movies at the KiMo Theatre, as part of the New Mexico Centennial Film Series.

The KiMo Theatre’s new monthly film series puts the spotlight on movies featuring New Mexico, as we would expect in New Mexico centennial year. We are such a star-struck, star-spangled state, in every sense of the words.

The Cheyenne Social Club is the free movie at the KiMo on Wednesday July 18 at 7 pm.  This is the 1970 movie about a cowboy who inherits a flourishing business, but when he crosses the country to take over his inheritance, he discovers it is actually (ahem!) a house of ill-repute.

I haven’t seen this film, but I want to see it now I look at the cast. The movie is directed by the hunkalicious Gene Kelly (so it should be stylish – as stylish as they got in 1970 anyway) and it stars James Stewart, Henry Fonda, and Shirley Jones. Yes, THAT Shirley Jones, from The Partridge Family. Also from Carousel and The Music Man. But most importantly from The Partridge Family.

The movie is rated PG-13 and it was shot in New Mexico, on location at the J.W. Eaves Ranch near Santa Fe.

The KiMo Theatre is located at 423 Central Avenue NW. Take real cash for the Kimo Theatre concessions.
