Hear the fabulous Sandra Cisneros, in a free event to celebrate Día de los Muertos – book your free tickets in advance or turn up on the door to try your luck at any remaining seats.

Sandra Cisneros is the author of The House On Mango Street, a book I loved and read again and again. Her new book, with artist Ester Hernández, is Have You Seen Marie?

See both Cisneros and Hernández at the Sandra Cisneros event on Friday November 2, 2012, at 7:30 pm in the National Hispanic Cultural Center’s Bank of America Theatre, where they’ll read from and discuss their new book.

Although tickets are free, an email from the NHCC recommends booking tickets in advance, by 5 pm on November 1, then collect them from the Box Office between 6:30 and 7 pm on Friday. Any tickets unclaimed by 7 pm will be released to the public, so if you didn’t reserve yours, you can just try your luck on the night.

To reserve tickets, call (505) 246-2261, extension 189. Or email for tickets to this email address, a maximum of 6 tickets per person.

Before the reading you can also join the free Día de los Muertos Altares Despedida community gathering from 5:30 – 7:30 pm in the Pete V. Domenici Education Center Ballroom, to remember loved ones with offerings, and celebrate with music, poetry and chocolate.

The NHCC Art Museum will also be open before and after the presentation to see works by Hernández and the exhibits in A Room of Her Own: My Mother’s Altar.

The National Hispanic Cultural Center is located at 1701 4th Street SW, Albuquerque.
