The MasterWorks of New Mexico Spring Art Show returns for its 14th season, and admission is free, including arts demos and events.

MasterWorks of New Mexico at EXPO New Mexico combines four juried fine art shows from Pastel Society of New Mexico, the New Mexico Watercolor Society, Miniature Arts Bardean, and the Rio Grande Art Association. All the works are by New Mexico artists and it’s a free exhibit, so let’s get out there and see what they’ve got to share with us, and possibly buy some art, depending on your budget.

The show opens with a free reception, awards ceremony and a chance to meet the artists on Friday April 6 from 5 – 8pm. Then it remains open for public viewing until April 28 2012.

Along the way, free MasterWorks of New Mexico events include:

  • April 11:  Watermedia Demo by Helen Gwinn from 1-2 pm
  • April 14:  Book Art Talk by Gail Murray from 1-3pm, showing how to make an accordion fold book and a pamphlet stitch book, using regular household materials.
  • April 15:  Open House Paint-In from noon to 4 pm, where any artists can turn up with your own supplies to sketch, paint, or sculpt together, with still life displays and clothed models provided. I LOVE seeing artists at work!
  • April 16: Demo by Santiago Perez from noon to 12:45 pm.
  • April 17: Pastel Demo by Terri Ford from 9:30 – 11 am
  • April 21: Oil Demo by Albert Handell at 9:30 am

MasterWorks of New Mexico takes place:

When: April 7 – 28, 2012, daily except Mondays and Easter
Time: 10 am to 5 pm
Where: EXPO New Mexico Hispanic Arts Building
Price: Admission is free!  But expect to pay regular EXPO NM fees for parking.
